If I was to pick only four qualities to have, like my action hero, or some kind of avatar on a computer game, it would be these four:
1. Open-mindedness
When I was a child, I thought I knew everything. In fact, for most of my life I thought I knew everything, and it was only when I realised I knew nothing that allowed me to be intelligent. Because when I thought I knew something, I definitely did not as I just closed the door on anything new or any other point of view. Problem for most people as they work around their entire lives saying, “I know this” “I know that” “I did this” “I said that” and they just close the door and any new or fresh opportunity coming that way.
This also closes people down from being coachable and they struggle to take on feedback. They start thinking feedback is an attack and their ego doesn’t like it and it starts to create a story on why they should be right.
I came up with a policy for myself when I receive feedback, and that is to say nothing.
Previously when people would give me feedback how to spend all my time defending it for some stupid reason.
But now when people give me feedback, I just say thank you and nine times out of 10. I don’t have anything to say later down the line anyway.
To be passionate about something is like having the unlimited power source that ironman uses to run his suit. As even when things look like they’re falling off a cliff passionless everybody up around you yourself and your team and your family. Passion is what gets people out of bed every day. Mix it with a bit of positivity and optimism, this will go a long way.
At the end of the day everything that is happening is happening anyway so there is no point complaining about it. I came up with a philosophy that every problem is an opportunity in disguise, and it is my job to deconstruct and discover what that opportunity is. Just because I don’t know the answer straight away, doesn’t mean there isn’t one.
This is an absolute power source to create anything that you want in your life. So, when you start to shine this light, do not let anybody take it away from you. Protect this superpower under any circumstances.
You only truly fail if you stop showing up. And sometimes it gets a little bit hot with all of the crazy things going on in the world.
You must find that drive to keep moving forward no matter what is happening. Playing at 99% is not enough at best. This will give you 50% of the result, really it’s probably more like 20% of the results. I came up with this club and it’s called Club 79 and what this stands for is that 80% of the reward comes in the last 20% of anything that anyone does.
But, the problem is most people get to the 79% mark and say to themselves that this 20% reward is not worth it. This is not working and they quit right before they were just about to get 80% of the reward for 20% of the effort. This is documented in many places including the law of success in 16 lessons from Napoleon Hill. He states that you should be in the habit of doing more than what you are paid for and that is because this leads to the fact that if you do this, eventually you will get paid more for what you do.
So having tenacity to drive through situations in circumstances to be a finisher, not just when the sun is shining, but also in the darkest winters. This is where you will be at strength and endurance and less life to the fullest.
This is a very important superpower as when emotion goes up, intelligence goes down. Once people start going down the road for some reason they wanna carry on down that road just to prove themselves right. As T Harv Eker once said you can either be right, or you can be rich, but not both.
Having composure in the moment, to be able to make decisions and to come up with solutions is an awesome superpower and will yield massive dividends.
Some people may look at this and say “Well,l I don’t have that because that’s not me.” That is not true. These are all learnable skills and through the right training can all be acquired and sharpened to their truest potential. The fact that somebody would say that that is not them, it’s because they have just learned to not be this, and they have learned to not have these skills in their arsenal.
Some people like to learn from the school of hard knocks, and that can be a very lengthy and tough road to go down. We have found a shortcut to acquire years of knowledge in a matter of weeks and months without all of the disastrous moves that people normally make. Does that mean that we never make mistakes? No, absolutely not. And, we make lots of mistakes but we have trained a scale to be able to be versatile and twist and turn very quickly. Learning how to take action when the way is clear to be able to solve problems and seize opportunities is a transferable skill. You just gotta get yourself in the situations where you can sharpen these tools before you go out to chop up your wood.
